Approx. 60,000 decares of continuous hunting terrain and good fishing opportunities.
A roughly 60,000-decare continuous hunting area is offered with the cabin Bruksbo as the base. The Åbjøra watershed in Bindal is a world of its own, with varied and magnificent nature rich in fish and game. There is no longer any permanent settlement in the Åbjøra area, and there are no other cabins within the hunting grounds.
If the entire area is used, hunting can be carried out with 6 rifles. The hunt is exclusive until September 24. The hunting terrain ranges from 100 to 1000 meters above sea level. The cabin sits at 90 meters.
The price applies for up to 4 hunters with 2 dogs, or 6 hunters without dogs.
The cabin is located right by Åbjørvatnet with a beautiful view toward the lower end of the lake. The cabin, approximately 110 m², has 5 bedrooms with a total of 10 beds. There is road access all the way to the door.
In addition, there are approximately 5,000 decares of mixed terrain for forest grouse and willow ptarmigan. The population has been decent in recent years but varies somewhat from year to year.
There are also large mountain areas with good rock ptarmigan hunting. The population has been strong in recent years. The ascent is steep, and you should expect about 45 minutes of climbing to reach the rock ptarmigan terrain. Once up in the mountains, the terrain is easier to traverse. Bringing a tent is recommended to make full use of the entire hunting area, if the weather allows.
Some hare are also taken in the area. If you encounter hare, fox, raven, crow, or marten, hunting these species is also permitted. There are also several huntable duck species in the area, especially during the first week of the hunting season. The Åbjøra watershed is rich in fish, with trout and Arctic char. In Åbjørvatnet, fishing is primarily done with nets, and the fish are of very high quality. The average weight is around 200 grams, and trout over 4 kg have been caught.
In winter, ice fishing on Åbjørvatnet is very good. Fishing rights apply from the threshold at the outlet of Åbjørvatnet and upstream to the outlet of Åbjøra at the upper end of Åbjørvatnet. There are several mountain lakes within the hunting area.
Due to the risk of disease transmission, it is not permitted to use your own nets, but nets are provided for loan upon arrival.
There is no mobile phone coverage at the cabin, but there is patchy coverage in certain mountain areas on Telenor’s network.
Map reference: M711: No. 1824 I and IV, and 1825 III, with some coverage on 1825 II.
Ancient finds and burial mounds show that this area has been inhabited since the Viking Age. Perhaps it was outlaws who first sought refuge in this remote valley? They likely discovered that the natural resources were abundant—forest and game, large areas suitable for growing grain, grazing land, and good fishing lakes. But it is not until the year 1611 that we find the first known resident by name. After that, people lived permanently on the farm until 1954. The old farmhouse still stands, but our guests stay in a modern cabin on the same cultivated land.
The area further into the Åbjør Valley is easy to travel through, with bridges over the Kvennelva and Kjerringdalselva rivers, and a cable-drawn raft across the river above Gardsfossen. An old tractor road from the timber-floating era runs from the boat landing about 5 km into the valley to the outlet of Kjerringdalselva. It is easy to walk, and parts of it can be used with a bicycle. Cloudberries and other berries are usually plentiful in Åbjøra late in the summer.
