Hunting

An approximately 40,000-decare continuous hunting area is offered, based out of the old farmhouse at Granbostad. The Åbjør watercourse in Bindal is a world of its own, with varied and magnificent nature, rich in fish and wildlife. There is no longer any permanent settlement in the Åbjøra area.

If the entire terrain is utilized, hunting can be done with 6 rifles. In a smaller part of the rock ptarmigan area, you may encounter other hunters. Otherwise, the hunting is exclusive.

The hunting terrain ranges from about 80 to 1000 meters above sea level. The cabin sits at 100 meters above sea level. Distances from Åbjørvatn: the village of Terråk and the COOP market: 30 km, Namsos Airport 154 km, Brønnøysund 140 km. Usually, only two weeks of ptarmigan hunting are rented out per year. The price applies for up to 6 hunters without dogs or 4 hunters with 2 dogs.

The house is from the late 19th century and has recently been renovated in a traditional style. There is road access all the way to the house. (The Åbjør road is usually not plowed in winter.) There are 4–5 cabins in the area, but these do not disturb Granbostad.

Willow ptarmigan

The willow ptarmigan population has been decent in recent years, but naturally fluctuates a lot from year to year. The hunting area has a total of about 6,000 decares of ptarmigan terrain (somewhat more since hunting also takes place in the Glømmen area). Parts of the terrain are easily accessible and well suited for hunting with dogs. Other parts of the area are more rugged and steep. The terrain is suitable for up to 2–3 dogs.

Forest grouse

In addition, there are about 6,000 decares of mixed terrain for forest grouse and ptarmigan. The population has been decent in recent years, with 1997 and 1998 being the last peak years. The population varies somewhat from year to year.

Rock ptarmigan

There are also generally very good areas for rock ptarmigan hunting. The population has been strong in recent years. The terrain is relatively easy to walk, but you should expect about 50 minutes of climbing to reach the rock ptarmigan grounds. The terrain is suitable for 6 hunters if the rock ptarmigan hunting areas are also used.

Other information

Some hare are also taken in the terrain. If you encounter hare, fox, raven, or crow, hunting these is permitted as well. There are also several huntable duck species in the area. There are quite a few roe deer in the region. Buck hunting is available on request.

The Åbjør watercourse is rich in trout and char. In Åbjørvatnet, net fishing is most common, and the fish are of good quality. Trout over 4 kg have been caught. In winter, Åbjørvatnet offers good ice fishing. The fishing rights apply from the threshold at the outlet of Åbjørvatnet and further inwards to the upper end of the lake. There are also several good mountain lakes in the area.

We do not allow the use of personal nets due to the risk of spreading disease, but we lend out nets upon arrival.
There is no mobile phone coverage at the cabin, though there is a weak signal on the ridge before driving down to the lake.

Location

Granbostad is a truly special place that many have taken to heart. The farm lies beautifully situated with cultivated land sloping down toward Åbjørvatnet, and with Granbostad Mountain and the waterfall rising behind it.

People have lived off this land for more than a thousand years. There are burial mounds in the area, and Båtelva, the river running right behind the house, has exceptionally good drinking water. In old times, boats were built here and were partly carried and partly floated down Åelva to the fjord. The last residents moved away in 1965.

The house has been renovated in a traditional style, and we feel it has become a home with a lot of soul. Even though we wanted to preserve everything old in the house, we allowed ourselves to install solar panels, a shower, and a wood-fired sauna.

Buildings

Logged main house with a total of 170 m2.panelled inside, cover boarding outside.

Ground floor: big kitchen with dining table for 9 persons, pantry, one sleeping room, living room, entry hall, wood-heated sauna and shower.

1.floor: three double and one single bedroom and extra matresses. Totally sleeping possibilities for 9. Shed for wood and outhouse. Boat-house by Åbjørvatn.

Facilities

Practical and good standard. Kitchen table for 9 persons, sofa, coffee table and chairs in the living room.

Kitchen utensils

Plenty of cutlery, plates, pots and pans for 9 persons.

Technical equipment

Running hot and cold water in the kitchen and for the shower, propane fridge/freezer, propane stove/oven and a wood-burning stove. Wood- burning stove in the living room too. Karosine lamps. Wood-heated sauna.

Boats

A 12” Alufish with a 5 Hp outboard engine in Åbjørvatn.

Floating equipment

9 life jackets for 70-90 kg lie in the boat-house. Other sizes on request.

Check-in and check-out

You have the cabin from 14:00 on arrival day, and you have to check-out by 13:00 on departure day.

About 500 metres from Åbjørvatn with a view over the lake. About 30 km from Terråk.

Gravel road for car up to the cabin.

Organizing

Arrival: Our guests will be received at Terråk or at Granbostad. Must be arranged beforehand. Information about the place and the possibilities in the area will be given.

Beds

Made beds on request, must be arranged beforehand. Down quilts and pillows for 8 persons. There are plenty of toilet paper, stearin candles and waste bags are in the cabin.

Guiding etc.

Hunting/hiking guides and cooking services can be organized.

To Rørvik airport: 110 km, Brønnøysund airport: 130 km.

Net coverage

There is no coverage around the cabin, but on higher locations in the mountains. Some coverage on the road on the top before driving down to Åbjørvatnet, and quite steady coverage further down the road to Åbygda.
