Terråkmarka

70,000 decares of continuous hunting terrain. Forest grouse, willow ptarmigan, and rock ptarmigan!

Hunting Location Accomodation Price & booking Technical review

Terråkmarka in short

  • Large hunting area with good forest grouse and willow ptarmigan habitats
  • Simple cabin with 4 beds + small extra sleeping nook
  • A 70.000-decare varied mountain area

Hunting

A total of roughly 70,000 decares, ranging from about 50 to 700 meters above sea level. The cabin is located at 183 meters. Hunting is permitted with up to four rifles.

Terråkmarka is relatively easy to walk and is the area on the estate best suited for hunting with dogs. Large areas support forest grouse and willow ptarmigan, with some rock ptarmigan habitat as well. The local hunters’ and anglers’ association also has access from the opening of the hunting season, so you may encounter other hunters while you are out. Terråkmarka uses daily bag limits, which are set before the hunt each year.

Willow ptarmigan

In Terråkmarka you can encounter willow ptarmigan throughout almost the entire area, except in the lowest forest sections and on the highest peaks. It is an attractive terrain for hunting with pointing dogs, with large, continuous willow ptarmigan habitats.

Rock ptarmigan

Along the mountain ridge that forms the eastern boundary of the terrain, as well as on Fuglvassfjellet and Svartåsfjellet, there are good opportunities for excellent rock ptarmigan hunting. The inner parts of Elsbudalen and the mountain areas toward the county border are the preferred spots if you are specifically looking for rock ptarmigan.

Forest grouse

Approx. 15,000 decares of forest-grouse habitat. Exciting and varied areas for forest-grouse hunting. In the terrain you’ll find everything from old spruce and pine forests to younger plantations, clear-cuts, marsh areas, and birch thickets up toward the tree line. There are biotopes to suit every preference. The black grouse population has been decent the past 2–3 years, and in 2018 we saw a nice increase in capercaillie numbers compared to earlier years.

It’s excellent terrain for forest-grouse hunting with dogs, but there are also areas where several flush hunters can use the terrain to their advantage. That said, if your goal is exclusively forest-grouse hunting, we would recommend a different area than Terråkmarka—but forest-grouse hunting here is a great supplement to ptarmigan hunting.

Location

Fugleburet is located about an hour’s walk from the road at Terråk, into the Terråk mountain area, 50 meters from Nervatnet (180 m a.s.l.). Nervatnet is the lowest of the three main lakes in the Terråk watercourse. The cabin is perfectly situated for wonderful nature experiences in a beautiful mountain landscape with countless good fishing opportunities.

Apart from the old Terråk summer farm and a couple of cabins, there are no other buildings in this mountain area. Later in the summer, there are plenty of blueberries and lingonberries in the lower areas, and often good cloudberry picking near the cabin. In autumn, there are also many mushrooms. Quality trout in both the main river system and the tributaries, along with abundant small game, make the area especially attractive.

In addition to Fugleburet, a small hut called Tønna, located about 6 km further into the terrain, is included in the rental. The hut is a nice resting spot for hikers or an extra overnight shelter when fishing the mountain lakes deeper in the watercourse. Tønna has two bunks and a small wood stove. Outhouse.

Electricity/water/gas

This section is for the technically interested, or in case you should unexpectedly experience technical problems during your stay.

There is no mobile coverage at the cabin, but there is patchy coverage on Urvoldvatnet and in parts of the mountain.

Power system:

2400W solar panel with a 9 kWh lithium battery and a 230V inverter. Tec29 power generator that can be started if needed. Electricity is used to run the water system, lighting, and the refrigerator.

If you experience problems:

  1. Check if the circuit breakers have been turned off and whether there is light inside the electrical cabinet
  2. Check that the main power switch in the kitchen has not been turned off
  3. If you are without power: Fill gasoline in the generator in the woodshed and start it manually. Let it run for about 6 hours.

Water system:

The entire system is automatic and consists of a 230V pressure pump down by the river and a propane water heater that heats water when hot water is drawn.

If you experience problems:

  1. Check that the 230V inverter is turned on and supplying power (green light)
  2. Check that the water pump is turned on
  3. If water is flowing but not getting hot:
    1. Check if there is gas
    2. Press the thermal fuse on top of the heater

Propane:

Propane is used for heating water as well as for cooking.

    • By the propane bottles there is a bottle selector:
      Green: Do nothing.
Red: Replace the bottle that is empty and turn the arrow toward the bottle with the least amount left. Do not replace bottles that are not empty.
  • Changing propane bottles:
Turn off the gas using the switch on the valve. The valve is loosened by lifting the black ring.
Mount the new bottle by squeezing the black ring upward, pressing the regulator down onto the new bottle, and then pressing the black ring down to lock it.
When the bottle is correctly mounted, it should be possible to lift the bottle by the regulator.
Extra gas bottles are stored in the outbuilding.
Bring empty gas bottles back across Åbjørvatnet and place them in the boathouse by the car.
