Each year we hunt about 80
moose with a success rate of near 100%.
From years of careful administration the moose population is near perfect
in size, age and sex distribution.
A designated proportion of the killed,
ca. 65%, are one and a half year old and younger, equally divided between the
sexes. The largest bulls and the most productive cows are saved for production
and are allowed hunted only sparingly.
Most of the moose hunt is done by hunting
teams that rent an area for a specified period of time. Each team is allowed a
specified number and categories of animals. Most of these teams have hunted here
for years; they have learned the land and the moose, and find this annual hunt
to be not just an exciting shooting, but very much a total experience, not least
a social event with grand and undisturbed wilderness as the frame. We find this
team arrangement very useful and successful, and they play an important part in
our long term planning and administration of the moose population.
Usually the hunt is performed as a
team effort, where the group works together to drive and post in the area. It is
normal in Scandinavia to use a specially trained dog to aid in the hunt.
With a limited number of moose, we
also offer moose hunting to other serious hunters who do not have this knowledge
of the land and our hunting culture, and therefore will need service, guiding
and the necessary support system.
We have two main alternatives:
1. For a group of
2-6 hunters, we can supply a terrain with exclusive rights.
In that case you have a group of guides that will arrange the hunt. You will
stay in a comfortable cabin, and if you like, have all meals served. It will
be left to you to decide how much walking you wish to do, if you wish to
participate in the butchering and handling of the kill, etc.
2. Guest
hunting, where a small number of hunters are invited to participate on existing,
experienced teams on the estate. It is suitable for single hunters, and for a
few hunting friends together. .
