- Sea trout and wild salmon
fishing in the Åelva river
- Trout, arctic char and
Sea trout/ wild salmon fishing in the Åbjøra
lake
- Fishing in several good mountain lakes
The
Åbjøra water system is a world of splendid and pure nature, with a rich animal
life and a varied vegetation. Books have been written about Åbjøra and the
people living here in former days. In the central part of this area lies
Granbostad.
The farm Granbostad
has roots at least back to the Viking age, but was abandoned in the
mid 60s. Today only the main house of the farm is left. This is a very
special house from the turn of the century that is now being restored to
the original style in the 1920s. Close
to the parking spot (600 meters from the cabin) are several grave-mounds, casting shadows from the life in ancient
times.
You can
now drive all the way to
the house at Granbostad. This is an old abandoned farm where the main
building has been restored, keeping the old style, but adding a few
modern inventions as a wood heated sauna and a hot/cold shower. The
house has 8 beds (5 bedrooms)
Fishing:
Our guests have Fishing rights in the Åbjøra lake. The fish
is plentiful but of modest size. There has been caught
innland trout up to 4 kg,
but more common size is 300-500 grams. In 2001 a
salmon ladder was built, and good populations of wild salmon and sea
trout are now beeing established in the lake. Boat is included.
The
15 km. long river Åelva runs from the lake to the fjord. This is one of the best
salmon rivers in the northern part of Norway. Fishing in a good part of this
river is also included. In the river you can meet other fishermen, but it is
selldom crowded. Parts of the river lies in a canyon and you need to walk a few
hundred meters to get to the best spots.
In the mountains around the Åbjøra lake lies several smaller lakes. Our
guests have Fishing rights in all of these. We recommend spending a night
fishing
in the mountains. The summer nights never get dark, and it can be very special
to sit outdoors at 4 am and enjoy eating your newly caught mountain trout while
watching the sun rise higher in the sky.
These mountain lakes are at a high altitude and at a good walk
from the cabin, so we recommend bringing sleeping bags and some
equipment for outdoor camping.
