How to get there:
Although the estate lies far from any densely
populated areas, it is easy to reach from most destination.

There are four
airports in the area.
Trondheim (4 hrs drive) airport has direct flights to many international
airports, including London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Prague and Nice. Flight
time from London is approximately 2 hrs. Return flight from London costs
from €120.

The airport
Brønnøysund is closest if you are going to Kalbekkvika, Øvereidet or
Sørengvatn (1 hr drive). For the other parts of the estate,
Rørvik
(1 hr drive) and
Namsos
(2 hr drive) are the closest. Tickets to these airports tend to be more
expensive than to Trondheim.

Driving
instructions from Oslo/Trondheim to Kalbekkvika/Sørengvatn/Øvereidet:
Take the E6 north
from Oslo. Follow signs to Trondheim. Just before Trondheim, follow signs
towards E6 Narvik (to avoid driving through the city centre). Continue on
the E6 for another 350km. Take a left towards Brønnøysund. After 45 km, you
will see a sign pointing towards Vassbygda. Continue on the main road 100
meter and you will get a red house on your right hand side. This is the
house of our chief forester Steinar Hansen, who will meet you and guide you
the rest of the way.
Driving
instructions from Oslo/Trondheim to most other cabins:
Take the E6 north
from Oslo. Follow signs to Trondheim. Just before Trondheim, follow signs
towards E6 Narvik (to avoid driving through the city centre). Continue on
the E6 for another 270km. 10 km after you have passed Grong, follow the
signs towards Brønnøysund. Follow the RV17 north twards brønnøysund until
you see a sign towards Terråk. When arriving at Terråk, you will get a gas
station on your right hand side. 200 meters past this, there is a driveway
up to the right. Our house and office lies on top of the driveway to the
right (a large yellow wooden house).
Most cabins can be reached by car or by boat. You
will find details about this under each product description.
Car rental:
You can rent a car upon arrival on the different airports or contact the
agencies in advance:
Trondheim
Brønnøysund
Rørvik
Namsos
In Trondheim there are also two
low price companies:
Cars for less and Rent a wreck
(The latter have slightly better cars than the name indicates).
In Namsos there is also a
Rent a wreck outlet. In
Brønnøysund there is a garage renting out (old) cars at an affordable
rate. You can contact them at iogt@c2i.net
Price level:
Norway has a reputation for being
very expensive. This used to be true, but the prices on most goods are
now at a "European level". Alcohol and tobacco, however, is still very
expensive in Norway due to high taxes, and petrol is still somewhat more
expensive.
Climate and what to bring:
During a normal summer day, the temperature reach 25ºC,
and the water temperature in the fjord is about 16-18ºC,
but the weather changes rapidly. It is not uncommon with temperatures down
to 10-12ºC during summertime. If you are going up in the
mountain, you should bring wind and water proof clothing in addition to some
warm, long underwear. Water proof shoes/rubber boots are mandatory if you
want to walk in the wild.
There are no venomous snakes or spiders in the
area. We have a population lynx and wolverine, but it is very rear
that they are seen as they are shy to humans. There is a large
population of moose and most guests see moose during their stay. One
advice: If you see a moose with its calf, do not try to run after the
calf to pet it, as the mother might attack... We also have a healthy
population of kings eagle and other beautiful animals.
Many of the cabins lie some distance from the
parking space. If this is the case for your cabin: Pack your gear in
bags and backpack and not in suitcases and/or plastic bags.
During summertime there can be a varying amount of
biting insects, (from almost none to pretty bad). The most common are
mosquito, blackfly and horsefly. Bring a repellent that you are familiar
with. One that I personally have a very good experience with is
Autan Active from Bayer. It might
also be a good idea to bring a face net if you are going to spend many
hours fishing in the river.
During summertime, it never gets dark. It is
possible to read the newspaper at midnight. As fishing is often better
during the night, many guests sleep during the day and are outside
during the night.
Most places where you go, there are no marked
tracks. The vegetation is in most areas so open that it is not difficult
to find your way, but we recommend that you bring a map/compass or a GPS
if you are not experienced with hiking. It is also possible to seek
advice from us on where to go, or if you like, rent a guide to show you
the area.
Where can you walk, and what are
you allowed to do?
There
are no regulations on where you can walk, so feel free not to follow any
tracks. You are normally also free to build a fire in the woods,
breaking of dry branches of the trees. (If it is very dry, however, the
risk of starting a forest fire might get so big that you will not be
allowed.) Grilling a freshly caught trout (with sour cream, salt and
pepper & wrapped in aluminium foil) directly on the fire is recomended,
But please: Do not leave any garbage in the nature. Bring home
everything that do not belong there.
What happens upon arrival:
When you arrive, you will meet one of our representatives who will
explain what you need to know. He will show you on a map where the best
fishing and hunting places are, and practical information about the
cabin, hiking routes and different attractions. We will also try to
visit you during your stay to see that you are enjoying your vacation.
What else can you do?
Please read our page on
general attractions
for the area/region.
